The American Lung Association has an excellent opportunity for a Specialist, Health Promotions. Working as a member of the Health Promotions & Education department, you will join an outstanding group of professionals dedicated to our mission: to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease through research, education, and advocacy.

Implement Addressing the Burden of Childhood Asthma in New York State grant including evidence-based strategies to expand the quality and availability of guidelines-based asthma control services in New York. Efforts aimed at improving asthma-related health outcomes and quality of life among children with asthma and their families/caregivers across New York’s highest asthma burden areas will be driven by the strategies outlined in the Center for Disease Control (CDC) National Asthma Control Program’s EXHALE Technical Package. This is a 100% grant-funded position serving the State of New York, focusing primarily Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, and the Bronx.

Location: This position is home-based and job responsibilities will take place in New York, New York.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the design, implementation, evaluation, and monitoring of evidence-based initiatives for the Addressing the Burden of Childhood Asthma in NYS grant to address the needs of the high-risk population incorporating the EXHALE Technical Package.
  • Facilitate the implementation of the Asthma Quality Improvement program, Project BREATHE NY, in high burden communities across New York City.
  • Engage multi-sector partners to drive statewide adoption of EXHALE strategies and in collective efforts to improve asthma-related health outcomes, promote health equity, and address social determinants of health among children with asthma and their families.
  • Distribute and assist in the development of asthma communications to a variety of audiences including individuals with asthma and their families/caregivers
  • Identify and recruit partner sites for implementation of Open Airways for Schools, Kickin Asthma and Let’s Take Control of Asthma Flipchart across a variety of school-based settings.
  • Assist with planning and delivery of asthma trainings throughout New York State, including training key partners to deliver asthma self-management programs to youth, as well as outreaching and building new partnerships across a variety of healthcare settings.
  • Provide logistical support for asthma training workshops, meetings, and events and assist in developing and writing various educational materials.
  • Build a sustainable workforce of delivery partners and provide technical assistance to facilitators on implementation of asthma self-management education programs.
  • Develop, maintain, and disseminate training materials, curricula, facilitator and student materials, resources, tools, and learning platform(s) for implementation of asthma training workshops, meetings, and events.
  • Conduct evaluation activities and reporting across programs and participating sites, ensuring timely and accurate submission of individual-level data reporting as required by the Association and funding sources.
  • Present program outcomes and disseminate surveillance/ evaluation findings at statewide and national meetings as needed.
  • Represent the Association as a member of community, civic, and/or health coalitions and organizations related to the Association’s mission.
  • Build, maintain, and cultivate relationships with funders, facilitators, and community partners to encourage program delivery, sustainability, and growth across service territory, including ALA signature programs where applicable.
  • Select and participate in local, state, and national seminars and courses designed to increase skills and knowledge related to job requirements.
  • Participate in and support all area events and provide support for annual report, awards, grants and other activities as assigned.

Compensation: Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. The target hiring range for this position is between $50,000 and $64,400 per annum.
