Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Sommelier to join our team. As a Sommelier, your primary responsibility is to elevate the guest experience through exceptional wine knowledge and service. You will guide guests in selecting wines that perfectly complement their meals, ensuring a memorable and enjoyable dining experience. To succeed in this role, you should possess strong communication skills, a deep passion for wine, and a genuine commitment to customer satisfaction. You should be a leader who sets the standard for wine service excellence, working closely with both your team and guests to deliver outstanding results. In addition to your wine expertise, you will also take on a variety of responsibilities, including managing the wine list, training staff, and assisting with overall service. Below is a more detailed list of your expected duties.

Responsibilities
  • Curate and maintain an extensive wine list, ensuring a diverse selection that complements the restaurant's menu.
  • Assist guests with wine selections, providing expert recommendations and wine pairings based on their preferences and meal choices.
  • Educate and train front-of-house staff on wine knowledge, proper serving techniques, and pairing wines with dishes.
  • Oversee the presentation and service of wine, ensuring it is served at the correct temperature and in appropriate glassware.
  • Conduct regular wine tastings to assess wine quality and ensure the wine list stays fresh and relevant.
  • Manage wine inventory, ordering, and ensure proper storage conditions to maintain quality.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with guests, offering personalized wine experiences and addressing inquiries or concerns.
  • Promote wine sales through recommendations and up-selling while meeting revenue goals.
  • Coordinate wine-related events, tastings, and private wine pairings for special occasions or large groups.
  • Collaborate with the kitchen and management to pair wines with seasonal and menu offerings.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, new wine releases, and emerging wine regions.
  • Maintain the wine cellar, managing inventory rotation, aging processes, and ensuring optimal storage conditions.
  • Monitor and manage the wine budget, focusing on cost control while maintaining high-quality selections.
  • Provide feedback on staff performance related to wine service and assist with staff development.
  • Handle customer complaints or issues regarding wine selections, service, or quality promptly and professionally.
Qualifications
  • Ideally, 2+ years of experience as an Sommelier or similar role
  • Ideally, 5+ years of experience in customer service experience
  • Computer literacy
  • Strong leadership, motivational, and people skills
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
