Crane Operator

We are seeking a skilled Crane Operator with experience in operating power-driven crane equipment with a magnet. The role involves handling overhead gantry DC cranes from a crow's nest, moving 25-50 ton steel slabs, and ensuring the seamless operation of the scarfing plant.

Responsibilities:

• Operate overhead gantry DC crane to load/unload steel slabs for conditioning within the scarfing plant.
• Pile and depile completed slabs efficiently.
• Maintain accurate records and logs of operations.
• Visually oversee the flow of the scarfing plant and inspect slab surfaces for defects.
• Identify and address surface defects on steel slabs.
• Use hand torches to remove fins, mis-scarfs, and machine gouges.
• Complete daily inspection reports and shovel slag and scale build-up during downtime.
• Utilize knowledge of gas and oxygen torches effectively.
• Train on robotic operator machines and clean robotic car three times per shift.
• Input IFS sequence numbers into panel view for data collection following SOP procedures.

Essential Skills:

• Experience in heavy industrial steel environments.
• Proficiency with overhead gantry crane operations.
• Comfortable working at heights.
• Valid driver's license.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• Experience with hand torch and scarfing operations.
• Mechanical inclination and computer literacy.
• Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes.

Work Environment:

Work on-site at a steel manufacturing facility, where steel toe boots are required. Training hours are from 7 am to 3 pm, with occasional work until 5 pm, and shift rotations between 3 pm and 11 pm every other week post-training.

This is a Permanent position based out of Chesterton, Indiana.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $67891.20 - $67891.20/yr. Health, dental, vision, union pension.

Workplace Type:

This is a fully onsite position in Burns Harbor, IN.
