Salary: $20/hr. - $25/hr. DOE

Summary:

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is responsible for monitoring client well-being, supporting overnight operations, and ensuring continuity of care during non-clinical hours at The Annexs offsite client housing location. This position plays a critical role in overnight health and safety, assisting with medication prompts, documenting client observations, and reporting concerns to on-call clinical or nursing personnel. The Certified Medical Assistant serves as a stable, compassionate presence for adult clients participating in The Annexs PHP and IOP programs. This position reports directly to the Nurse Manager.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities , but is accountable for maintaining a safe, responsive, and compliant environment during the overnight shift.
  • Collaborates with the day nursing team, clinical leadership, and operational staff through shift handoffs and written communication.

Detailed Responsibilities:

  • Monitor clients throughout overnight hours to ensure health, safety, and compliance with housing rules and routines.
  • Conduct routine safety rounds and wellness checks; observe and document client condition, mood, and behavior.
  • Prompt clients to take pre-dispensed medications at scheduled times in accordance with The Annexs Self-Administration of Medication Policy; ensure all taken and refused medication are properly documented.
  • Respond to non-emergency client needs during overnight hours, including minor medical concerns, sleep disturbances, and emotional support.
  • Immediately escalate any significant physical or behavioral health concerns to the on-call nurse or clinical supervisor.
  • Accurately complete shift reports, observation notes, and incident documentation in internal systems or designated EMR tools.
  • Perform basic infection control and sanitation procedures in shared spaces and as needed for symptomatic clients.
  • Maintain facility safety by performing nightly walkthroughs, ensuring doors and exits are secure, and reporting facility issues.
  • Assist in emergency response situations following training and organizational protocols.
  • Support continuity of care by participating in shift handoff communication with incoming/outgoing team members.
  • Attend training, complete ongoing compliance requirements, and participate in staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Nurse Manager.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Competency in observing and documenting physical and behavioral health signs in a mental health setting.
  • Understanding of HIPAA confidentiality requirements and professional boundaries.
  • Strong interpersonal communication, especially in de-escalation, redirection, and stress tolerance.
  • Familiarity with infection control and medication safety best practices.
  • Technological proficiency to complete electronic logs or use EMR-based forms.
  • Ability to remain alert, composed, and responsive during overnight shifts without direct supervision.
  • Cultural sensitivity, professionalism, and a client-first mindset.

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Must possess one of the following nationally recognized certifications:
    • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA AAMA)
    • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA AMT)
    • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA NHA)
    • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA NCCT)
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a behavioral health, residential, or medical care setting preferred.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification required.
  • Cleared Background Check/Pre-Employment UDS
  • Valid Texas Drivers License required.
  • Must be available for overnight shift coverage (typically 6:00 PM 6:00 AM or similar).
