Chief Commercial Officer

Introduction

We are seeking a strategic and experienced Chief Commercial Officer to lead our publishing services division, Paradigm. This role involves developing and executing comprehensive commercial strategies, driving revenue growth, and fostering strong industry partnerships.

Your Tasks

  1. Strategic Leadership
    • Develop and implement a multi-year commercial strategy to grow Paradigm’s publishing services.
    • Align sales and marketing initiatives with organizational goals, market trends, and client needs.
    • Participate as a key member of the executive leadership team, advising on revenue planning, pricing models, and strategic investments.
  2. Revenue Growth & Business Development
    • Expand Paradigm’s market presence through data-driven sales strategies and acquisition models.
    • Manage sales targets and pipeline forecasting for service clients and content distribution programs (e.g., University Press Library).
  3. Marketing & Brand Positioning
    • Coordinate marketing efforts to enhance Paradigm’s visibility among publishers, librarians, and industry influencers.
    • Lead content strategy, events, thought leadership, and campaigns to differentiate Paradigm in the market.
    • Promote our core values: independence, impact, partnership, and financial sustainability.
  4. Partnerships & Ecosystem Development
    • Establish alliances with libraries, consortia, aggregators, and technology partners to strengthen Paradigm’s offerings and distribution channels.
    • Support the development of collaborative models involving all stakeholders and product types.
  5. Team Leadership
    • Manage and mentor a cross-functional team including sales, operations, customer service, and account management.
    • Foster a high-performance culture focused on accountability, strategic growth, and alignment with organizational mission.
    • Enhance team capacity through operational excellence, training, and goal setting.

Your Profile

  • Over 10 years of leadership experience in academic publishing, library services, or content platforms.
  • Deep knowledge of scholarly publishing business models, especially for small and independent publishers.
  • Proven track record in developing and executing revenue strategies that combine service and content offerings.
  • Experience with open access models, library sales, and metadata/distribution workflows is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead, influence, and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in publishing, business, or related field required; an advanced degree is a plus.
